Finally I should be receiving mine tomorrow Sheesh it has only taken 12 days. They didn't even ship it till the 6th according to FedEx tracking. That wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't ordered it on Dec 31

At least you got some tracking information. Mine arrived completely unannounced with absolutely no indication of the ship date, who it had been shipped by nor indeed that it had ever been shipped.

What can you expect when shipping costs $1.00. ? LOL

To find out that shipping information I had to go to their website and login to my account and than look under Orders and there I found the FedEx tracking number than I went to FedEx and entered the information.  Yes it is ashamed that they could not at least provide that information to one in a email.

The thing that scared me was that when I went to the web site, logged in and looked at my order history, I never saw any indication that I had ever ordered anything. ??? Scary stuff. LOL

Yes, I called them about it and was caller 38 in the query. Thank goodness for having a speaker phone. When I did get through they told me that they were having an issue with it showing on the website and than checked for me and confirmed that it had indeed been ordered.  When I was on their site today it was working.

Personally I think I would of put up a notice that said something to the effect that they were having issued with the order status page and your order had been place.

My research shows me that "RedTag" is part of a company called "UBid".

They apparently have had some shaky business practices in the past.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBid

I am not so sure I feel comfortable doing business with them in the future.

That being said, I am happy with my purchase, so my personal opinion is that I am happy with my encounter with them.

Perhaps they are trying to redeem themselves.

Rudge,

Yes, Red Tag Deal Of The Day is an off-shoot of UBid. And yes, UBid has gone through some "trials" and "tribulations" that have adversely affected their reputation.

I have dealt with UBid for approximately 20 years. For items that come from the UBid warehouse, I've always received a great deal and had no problems. The problems for UBid came from 3rd party sellers that were selling items on the UBid website. The 3rd party sellers would offer an item for a ridiculously low price, then charge $90 to ship the item to you. For a while, this practice became rampant among the 3rd party sellers. Even today, on the regular UBid web site, this practice is still an issue and a huge reason I don't conduct much business there.

With all of that said, the Red Tag specials typically come from the UBid warehouse, and the shipping is only $1.95. Granted, they are not the most prompt retailer to deal with when it comes to shipping. But I have always received my orders from there in good condition, exactly as they were advertised on the Red Tag web site. In short, I've never been burned on any of my purchases from Red Tag. And with today's economy as crappy as it is, I suspect that I will continue ordering items from Red Tag's web site, since I get a lot of "bang for my buck," receiving quality merchandise for exceptionally good prices.

BTW, I have no connection with Red Tag, other than that as a very satisfied repeat customer (I've purchased several items from there).

Well it finally arrived this afternoon, not one but two!  I only ordered 1.  I opened them and man was I disappointed :( I know that these are refurbished units, but they could of at least made an effort to clean the dirt and grime from them.  What I found was disgusting to say the least.  The first one I opened was filthy inside with dust bunnies everywhere and food particles up front by the floppie drive. After blowing it out and cleaning the inside. I hooked it up. Guess what.......................   It wouldn't power up. I checked all the wiring and than proceeded to re-seat the ram.  Ugh!   still doesn't work.   The other one wasn't as dirty as the first was, but there was something sticky all over the case. I will clean it off later. It too was dirty and full of dust bunnies.  I thought these were refurbished units. Are they telling us that they work on fifty equipment and then send it to customers this way???  Anyway after connecting the second one and powering it up. This one came to life and started  to boot YEAH......................   Oops, wait it crashed and locked up.  Try, try again. Second time it booted and into that other OS and than crashed. Third time is a charm.  This time it booted and behold I was into that other OS. I opened a console window and entered top.  hmmm lets see 512K  memory and lots of swap.  This thing is a dog running 512K memory!!!!!!  and than CRASH..................... So I decided to run a mem test on it using a live cd.  CRASH... CRASH....... CRASH......   This is just pure BS...

I pulled out some memory I had and swapped that 512 stick for a 1 gig stick. This time I had no problems booting or running that other OS. Hmm I shut it down and reinstalled the 512K stick along with my 1 gig. Fired it up and was off and running. Again running top I was watching memory usage. I had Firefox and several other things loaded  Once the memory used exceeded 1gig CRASH......... I pulled the 512K stick and tossed it aside.  Thank it dawned on me to swap it for the memory out of the first one, It wasn't powering on in the first pace. Well I pulled out the memory and to my surprise it wasn't a 512K stick.  It was a 1 gig stick.  Hmm, when I ordered it they said 512K memory.  So I swapped it. Now I have two gig and a memory test shows all is good.

I started looking at the first machine and noticed it had a DVD and the 2nd machine didn't. So I swapped the CD for the DVD. I than peaked at the hard drives. The second machine had a Maxtor 40 gig drive, the first machine also had a Maxtor drive but it wasn't 40 gig it was 80 gig.   What the heck is going on.  I pulled the hard drives and swapped them. I fired up the one good box and surprise surprise I was running Windows XP...............Say what!!!

Someone has seriously screwed something up.  I decided to run a hardware test. Again I was surprised this thing is a dual core running at 3.2Ghz.  It was advertised as a 3.0Ghz single core.

I am going to call redtag and have a chat with them.  Went to their website and finally found a phone number.  I dialed it up and ^%$%$# I got that the number you have dialed recording......  Doing some more searching I found another number and dialed it.  One ringy dingy two, three, four, five, six and than a recording. Your call is important to use, please listen to the following as our directory has changed. Hmmm, selection 4 and another recorded message and a hang up.  Crap.......................................  Redialed and went through the same recording a second time this time using selection 5.  Ahh a new recording  You are caller number 37, your call we be answered in the order it was received.  Holly cow caller 37..............  Now wonder they have so many callers if they send out BS like this.  I hung up the phone. I have got to go have a cup of coffee and calm down.

What would you do if this happened to you? Should I just pack these both back up and send them back requesting a refund. Yes, I did check my credit card and they charged me for two, how that works when I ordered one I don't know!

Well I am off to go get a good cup of coffee and relax a bit before I brave the caller number 37 or higher wait.

Dual core? At 3.5Ghz? 80GB HDD? Hmm...... I think I'd keep that one and return the other. (Or you could send the dual core to me. ;) LOL - just kidding.)

Sorry your order was so fouled up.  I'd be very angry too.
I got the one machine I ordered with the correct specs and it was cleaned before I got it. It all works and while I haven't installed any additional/different software (I will be installing PCLOS), it does appear to be as advertised.  Good luck in getting a successful resolution.

Well I have had sever cups of coffee and thought about this mess. I figured out what was the issue with the first machine I opened it was the power supply. Wouldn't you know it. I went to the local computer shop here and he had one in his box of junk. He let me bring it home to test the box with it.  I have bought a lot of stuff from him over the last 7 years or so. Anyway that box now fires up also. I stuck 1 gig of ram in it and check the hardware it had and it is a single core at 3.0Ghz.

I guess I could just spend the $30.00 for the power supply to replace the bad one and than turn around and try to sell it for what I would have in it. Or I could just keep the thing and use it for a loaner when I have a repair for someone else. I am still going to complain about the condition of the equipment, whither or not I decide to keep the machine.  I would really hope that this is not their standard practice when selling refurbished equipment.

Sorry I just noticed that I had typed 3.5Ghz in my earlier post when it should of been 3.2Ghz.
