Your previous post would indicate it uses the intel video driver.

The computer configuration apps says, for the video card,:

Vendor: ‎Intel Corporation

This isn't one of those computers with the dual video cards is it?

You can try to delete the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and see if it will come up without one.

at the moment afik if you can't disable the dual video card option liunux doesn't support well enough the dual video card system on laptops yet, still useful to try the suggestion Texstar gave

Yes, nice machine.  Picked it up in Singapore for less than $500 USD. 

So, I will delete the "etc" file Texstar mentioned and reboot.

That will have to wait a short time.  I am finishing downloading the full kde PCLinuxOS iso.  I am finding that both full and mini versions of xfce are missing dependencies. (brightness plugin is absent from the Phoenix edition as you cannot install the xfce power manager, for example.)

Anyway, I am determined to get a good install of PC Linuxos, even if I have to give up xfce for kde.

i usually install full kde version and then add xfce, gnome or any other desktop

in the login i can choose the desktop i want to use any moment

the etc folder? i think that all you need to do is delete xorg.conf, at least when i screw up things here that is what i do, then if system can't create it, i use XFdrake to create it with a simple to follow menu

Removing the xorg.conf file isn't going to help with that dual video laptop. There are a couple of bios settings that have to be changed but I don't remember them at the moment.

I have burned the complete kde iso, and will reinstall.

By the way, I did try again 2 other livecd distros I made about 2 months ago (1 is gnome, the other xfce) and they both power up automatically at 1600 by 900 pixels.

True.  And PCLinuxos is my first choice!
Have reburned the dvd. First one hangs on both install and live session.

No, not the full monty.

Strangely, it starts fine.  The activity bar gets about 50% complete and then everything stops, screen goes black, no cd activity, the system hangs.

Doesn't seem like there's been any resolution (excuse pun!) to this. The OP hasn't come back. I'm interested because I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo G770.

If it has the dual graphics card setup, I would forget it. The only official drivers available are for Windows. There are unofficial drivers being developed, but without support from the manufacturers of the hardware, it could be years before it could be made to work as advertised with any Linux installation.
