What djohnston said!

I get upset when someone says "I am dumb" or "I ask dumb questions," so I usually remain quiet so as to not let my upset come through in my response. Seeking knowledge can never be dumb. A person seeking knowledge is a smart person. Period. I give no leeway on this. That's my personal position.
IMO, anyone who has taken the step of installing PCLinuxOS and of coming here to ask a question has shown him/herself to be above average smart.

OK, sorry Neal, it's more an Australian sarcastic way of speaking.

"I ask the dumb question's, so no one else has to."  ::)
( I note Americans may take this in a way not intended; as 'tongue in cheek.')
Simply a tool to fuel conversation was what I felt needed to be had.
It is good that we have really nutted out what Hootiegibbon initially posted; and the dynamics involved.
I was in a position like dcwbis, - Reply #54 dcwbis - Reply #54 who wondered:
Quote
"...What is it about certain posts that gives people the impression that the questions are not of a personal nature, but are instead support questions for paying clients?
"...I cannot say that I have spotted anything that I suspected of being asked for a paying third party."

Now I understand, not being much of a support giver, don't get to see what busy volunteers see, plus IRC, I've never seen anyone online even.

The income of a very giving person, Texstar, being eroded by unscrupulous "Tech Support" people should not happen.
Mechanisms to stop this was were I felt a hearty discussion could be had, and should be had. Maybe some more ideas will come out here.
I won't say 'Dumb' - 'Question', again. International language, in text, can be difficult to express / comprehend, with its nuances...

Hoping Texstar gets what he deserves; a great income, plus satisfaction that his community is behind him. Also we all need to donate, possibly, which is what I will be doing. ( ...as we are being served by the grace of too much kindness).

The guy's getting a free ride off of Texstar's work, and the info that Volunteers offer here at Forum, hopefully get this, or will get 'IT' very soon.

Regards,
finito.

Neal,
I hope you don't need to be that quiet.  :( If so I'll catch you some time in May.  ;)

update: Sorry ManBear. After spending the first sixteen years of my life in the woods I should have remembered. It's that time of the year. You're hibernating. :-[ :-[

There's one thing you ought to know about our bear. He's not seasonal and he doesn't hibernate. I guess Neal is what you would call the exception.

Oh he does STANDBY every now and then but he doesn't shutdown either.  ;D

Lol, too much life to be had to be sleeping.
I get that too, although I go a little odd at times, my parents fault; they supplied the genes  ;)

Its also an attempt to safe guard Texstar's living so that he can continue to offer a great world class operating system if the OS gets a poor rep, Texstar earns less,

Not all bears need to hibernate and those of us that do, sleep for a while then wander for a while.  The more sophisticated ones wander the net to find interesting forums.

I reserve the right to "Bear" arms.  Just ask my lady about that!  LOL
