sweex webcam

I recewed as Christmas gift a sweex webcam.
(using google tells: Zydas 1201)

What can be done for getting it to work?

Hi Erik.

First can You post the output of the command

lsusb
with and without the webcam plugged in?

Try installing application like for example kamoso (kde camera handling software) or cheese (webcam managing software for Gnome) from repository and see if it is going to pick image from the webcam.

Solved

I logged into Skype, marked webcam. Voilá the camera started to work.

By other words, PCLinuxOs LXDE edition, accepted the settings.

Despite that I will try the recommended code.

I wonder by what command can the webcam be forced to work when other applications
are used?
For example VLC, Kaffeine, Clementine, etc?

VLC - Media - Open Capture Device - Video for Linux - (selecting Play here should do it, but if necessary) put in the video device name .....  maybe  /dev/video0    (video zero)
