Hello,
I'm new here and somewhat inexperienced with Linux.
I'm attempting to install the 2011-09 Full Monte, not sure it can be done. My hardware:
Dell Inspiron 600m laptop with ATI Radeon 9x 3d video card - not sure how much memory - 32-bit worst case
installed an Intel 2200 BG Wifi card to get around previously experienced Broadcom issues. 1 GB RAM, 250 Gb hard drive.
When I attempt to install it hangs at the NET-SMTP or the postfix OK next step point.
It seems to go further (to postfix) when I type in 32-bit on the Boot options line which appears when I set the 'safe settings mode.' I freely admit that to be pure guesswork.
Oddly, the thing came up when I first tried it and again after two attempts when I tried to install to the HD.
At this point, I suspect a possible corrupted CD or the fact that on one attempt, I got some errors stating that the root was invalid and that the file type was unrecognized.
I really like the graphics and the KDE setup in general, as it offers the most options for the different desktops and window control. However, I have tried the Fedora distribution also, and it is very buggy. Other distributions like another distro work, but don't offer what I want. Again, I may not *get* what I want out of this machine.
I don't know how to do a checksum, or utilize bit-torrent on Windows to reload - the standard connection is far too slow.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Best,
Larry
