I seem completely lost

OK so here you have it...

I want to start packaging but I've red through the packagers section and seem completely lost here...
I just want to know what I need to start..
Is there some tutorials somewhere in the wiki or on the web...

I would e glad to do something for PCLOS than just use it...

I do not understand the terminology either is there a wiki page or maybe a other tut that explains every ting form scrach

LTJr, if you want to start at the very bare bones basic info, you can find some useful stuff here

It explains what "packaging" is and even mentions PCLinuxOS directly.

It does not however, go into any details about how to do it.

From what I have seen and experimented with, you must first set up a "build" environment that contains NO additional software other than a freshly installed OS and a full update.

In that "build" environment you instal some packaging tools found in the repos. Once you execute those "tools", that sets you up to get started. (I THINK ).....

I am wrong about 80% of the time. ;)

I hope that gets you started.   ;D ;D

You will need to install pkgutils along with all its dependecies. You can choose either the KDE or Thunar helper. Once you're setup, download an easy src.rpm from the repository.  I suggest you start of with a theme. Applications are more complicated.

Once you installed the src.rpm as your user (NOT ROOT), open the spec file on the SPECS folder with your favorite plain text editor. Understand the different sections.

Right-clicking on the spec file will give you different options to build, try them all. On a terminal PWD on your SPECS, type rpmbuild --help and understand the different options/parameters.

That should be a good first step for you.

I'm not sure with what you want start, i started with a own script-tool (system-info), and read this sorry found it only in german, this link will not longer work http://www.montanalinux.org/files/RPM_Build_Manual_Rev2.pdf.

Yes, ASK if there are things you didn't understand; if you got stuck; if the girl you're seeing is good for you or not ... ASK.

But take it one step at a time. Don't jump to the last page of the book. We have lotsa Master Jedis around, Leiche, MBantz, travisn000, etc (there's about 30) ... and Yoda (aka Neal) .... if we can't answer your query, Tex, DA FORCE will shine the light upon you. ;)

Thanks all for your replies... I done shopping in the town whole morning so sorry for my late reply

Do someone know of a easy to package source file that I can experiment on

I will go through all of the answers and I will ask the big hippo if we can download a ISO during the night...

Edit: O and can I package in Vbox...

You cannot use Synaptic. Use your web browser to go to http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/

Go to one of the SRPMS.xxxx and search for *theme*

Yes, you can package in vbox. Personally I prefer a dedicated partition, but that's me.     
After you have practiced packaging a few themes, as per Archie's advice, practice packaging a few of our in-house apps. For a list, check the knowledge base (wiki).

That's what you would have advised me when I was starting out, Neal. So it's really you giving longtom jr the sound advice. ;)
