Help in Testing Razor-Qt 0.4.0-2
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:46:36 PM »
The first installment of Razor-Qt (0.4.0-1) available in our repository had several issues which the developers are continually trying to fix. I grabbed the most recent git snapshot and packaged it. Some of the fixes include the ability to use the mouse scrollwheel to navigate through the virtual desktops, different wallpaper and widgets on each virtual desktop, included policykit and power manager, etc.

There is still a long way for Razor-Qt to go but it is a good enough alternative DE for me. (1) It's light and it's fast, (2) it integrates fairly well on top of KDE giving me the option to use KWin effects, (3) it looks and feel like KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.6.5 put together.

If you have been testing the previous version of Razor-Qt, please help me test this one out. The RPMS are for 64-bit. Download them here.

Extract the archive to a folder and use the usual #rpm -Uvh *.rpm. This batch would need an extra dependency - doxygen.

Your feedback and comments are appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Peace and much respect.
Archie

Archie;

Have you received any volunteers yet?  And what are you looking for in feedback?

I guess this was intended only for KWin? Installed and ran it with Openbox WM. So far, no issues except a bunch of missing icons. But, that has nothing to do with the packages. Did run into two package issues. I installed as root with rpm -Uvh *.rpm.

1) polkit-qt-1-devel is needed by razorqt-policykit-0.4.0-2_archie_2012.x86_64
2) I forgot to install doxygen. When I started Synaptic, I got a message that two versions of libqtxdg were installed. They were:

libqtxdg#0.4.0-1pclos2011
libqtxdg#0.4.0-2_archie_2012

I removed libqtxdg#0.4.0-1pclos2011 and left the other.

Thanks for the heads up, Darrel. I'll be watching for those two things you mentioned on the next build.

@GermanTux, the Razor-Qt development have been adding lotsa goodies ... they now even have their own XDG. So basically, just the run down and use and any issues that may be related to Razor-Qt.

Razor-Qt 4.1 should be released on Feb. 1.

Archie,

Any suggestions on which icon theme(s) I should install? (Running LXDE 64bit with task-e17 also installed.)

Not sure with LXDE, Darrel. I am using it over Kwin with KFaenza and it reminds me quite a lot of KDE3 with Compiz. You should play around with the Config Settings which should be the last icon on the Quicklaunch. The settings are still sparse ... and there's no mention (or maybe I missed it) of any improvements on this area. I had do mine by hand just so the panel didn't look to white. ;)

Missing icons displayed in the menu and on the toolbar is the only issue. I was thinking Faenza, so I'll install the generic one. Probably do the trick.

K then, sounds good.  But I will be unable to test the 64 bit packages, since with my CPU I cannot run 564 bit virtual machines.  I'll give it a try and report back.
