And how do you turn back on?

Move the mouse :)

Also works if you press the Any key :)

Could not find Any key... :P

Typical Andy ... smart. Nope, there's no more suffix ... just smart. ;)  ;D

BTW Dr. Qui? It would be better if you can use a combo, e.g. Meta+Scr Lck. This way you can still use Scr Lck if you need to.

Hmmmm I think I have found the side effect.

If You have / use / like the noblank.sh script in Your autostart then this command will render it useless.

Example - system starts and noblank script is fired up - it's purpose is to not to allow screen to go blank. I ran the command and screen went off for the night. In the morning I moved the mouse screen came back on but when I left the room to get some coffee and "breakfast" and came back the screen was off again.

Re-running:

Code: [Select]
xset s off && xset -dpms
should do it... I am thinking about the "ON/OFF Switch" widget... Must have a look if it's still in the repo...

Regards.

Andy

That's how I do it on Openbox without fiddling with the xscreensaver daemon and settings.

Shortcuts, icon clicks and bash scripts doesn't cut it for me. The monitor just turns back on after half a second. I need to be on the terminal and execute the command for the screen to stay blank.

I do not have noblank.sh on my Autostart (on either of them) unless it is already part of the profile which I haven't check.

Finger trouble .......  which is why a single key rather than a combination is preferable methinks .....  I had fun testing it and getting my fingers 'just so' to get reliable turn off.

Wooo ... you're right. The trouble is finding a key that isn't assigned to anything. I found one ... a VAIO key Launch (3) that I am pretty sure isn't doing anything.

I'm almost out of combination that makes sense ... Meta+Shift+P=PCC, Meta+Alt+G=GIMP ... who needs a menu?? ;D
