NDISWRAPPER installation assistance ( Resolved )
« on: December 27, 2011, 05:22:36 PM »
Hello:
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 and their is no wireless driver for it that I have been able to locate so I am going to try NDISWRAPPer but I have never installed/used it.

I know that I need the INF file for NDISWRAPPER but I don't have and first notion or thought about separating the Windows Driver file for it, from sp51604.exe.

I am pretty sure that I can get it installed through the configuration files already installed.

Thank you

the exe can be run on a windows machine or in the linux machine with the help of wine

the installer will run the exe that is just a app that unzips the contents in a folder called c:\compaq and then it runs the real exe file

inside that folder you will find files and folders for xp, vista and similar stuff

copy the dlls, inf and other files from the the folder ot another location to make more simple the ndiswrapper process

if you use wine the c:\compaq folder will be stored in /home/thenameofyouruser/.wine/drive c or a similar path(don't have wine installed atm), when you install the files in wine you don't have to complete the process, it won't help ndiswrapper or will hurt the linux install, all you need to do is decompress the files

Thanks for the assist.

OK just a bit more help please.

Synaptic installer says to run  OBCONF to run wine.

tried obconf from the run command but it will not run.
Synaptic shows it as installed but shows no Menu options.

I have not run wine before and am at a loss.

What is next.

Synaptic installer says to run  OBCONF to run wine.

Are you sure of that? obconf is the executable to configure Openbox window manager, which has nothing to do with running wine.
