[SOLVED] Change LXDE taskbar color?
« on: December 20, 2011, 12:58:36 AM »
How do I change the default black taskbar color to something else (I'm thinking blue).
I see "appearance" when I right click on panel preferences but I don't want to mess with it yet since i'm not sure that is what is controlling it.

Also it would be nice if I could make the top bar on the windows (such as firefox) a lighter grey, if anyone knows how I would do that.

Thanks for the help :).

On another note, kudos to the people that worked on the LXDE system, as I seriously love it.

By "taskbar," I suppose you mean lxpanel? The taskbar sits on the panel and shows which applications you have open. So I have both questions and answers for you. First question - black? Second question - which version of PCLinuxOS-LXDE did you install? The default panel image has never been black.
You can change the background image as you started out > right click the panel > Panel Settings > Appearrance > click the name of the background image to open a dialog and see other images or choose Solid Color and click the color rectangle - choose a color to use or use the slide bar to set a level of transparency.

You will find this quite useful and informative:

You'll probably want the lxdepanel-images package from Synaptic, too, for more variety.
Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

There's a matching wallpaper package, too. Each of the panel images has a matching wallpaper.

Hi Neal,
Here was my default lxpanel color (it was set for background.png) - I keep my monitor brightness settings low so maybe it's more greyish/black.

Is that the default color you expected?

The version that I installed was the latest full (pclinuxos-lxde-2011.09.iso).

Thanks for the tips - I figured out how to change the color and am going to read over the other links you gave me.

Yes, that is the gray brushed-metal that is the default background.png.
