Widget to monitor system?
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:55:18 PM »
Can anyone recommend an easy to use widget to monitor a system (CPU, RAM, etc.)  I've looked at a few, but I'm lost.  I didn't understand bubblemon at all.

Gkrellm works on just about any desktop environment. It has addons for CPU activity, network activity, temperature monitoring, etc. Just depends on what all you want to monitor. With gkrellm, you can do all the functions with one widget.

yes, bublemonitor is confusing

i just load cpu monitor, memory status, battery monitor and temperature monitor(this one runs on farenheith and i use Celsius  :-\  )

all of them separated, you have seen them on my monthly screenshots

also you can put system monitor widget, it lets you add the widgets i mentioned and a couple more into a group you might find useful

+1 - my favorite for many years for all those reasons.

i used gkrellm some years ago and i had problems with compiz and fullscreen flash videos, sometimes with movies

the kde widgets doesn't have those problems atm but since i don't use compiz anymore gkrellm should be ok i think

the problem with it is customize it to look like your desktop, no matter what i do with it, it always looks like it is not part of my desktop, it looks nice but doesn't play nice with the rest of the desktop

I've not had those problems. Maybe I should have said, YMMV.  ;)

I have used gkrellm for years and you can always see it running down the right side
of any desktop I've posted.

YMMV. For me, it works great with Kwin. And it has a comprehensive --help ... flexible and very configurable (as you can see from MeeMaw's and LKJ's monthly screenshots).

But hey, Georgetoon won't know for himself unless he tries all that has been suggested so far.

true, when you do things by yourself you learn more

anyway, i find more easy to make work together the native widgets, they are already there so why not use them?

Yes, I agree.   I tried several already, and, as I mentioned, they were a bit confusing.   Hence my post.;  Probably not settig them up correctly. :) :-[

Actually, was playing around with a couple and I like 'em.  Load Monitor which gives a bar graph and the system monitor widget. With System Monitor, as long as you unlock widgets, THEN you can configure.
