CD DVD not burning
« on: December 12, 2011, 05:46:20 PM »
Hi there,

I'm trying to burn ISO files and all 3 linux apps are reporting errors and all have failed repeatedly. I have used these apps over the past week for data backup and they were fine until now. I have tried

K3B - "K3B doesn't have permission to access device." I have tried to change permissions and K3B can't or won't let me. I even tried doing it while logged into the root account. Doing this caused even more issues.

Grafburn and Bresaro both quit with error 255

Running Summer fairy updated and with kernel 2.6.38.8

Any ideas?

Open a terminal. Enter k3bsetup and post any errors you get.

Things are getting worse -
now K3B says
No optical drive found.
K3b did not find any optical device in your system.
Solution: Make sure HAL daemon is running, it is used by K3b for finding devices.

I ran k3bsetup in terminal and the result was -
[randal@localhost ~]$ k3bsetup
true

I know the machine sees the drive because I put a cd in and viewed its contents in the file manager.

Hi,

What groups do your user belong to ? Please check by typing "id" in a user console.

What exactly have you changed in the K3B permissions and how did you do that exactly ?

Also, please do try as well in a user console:

Code: [Select]
$ wodim /path/to/your-iso
Where "/path/to/your-iso" is the full path to the iso file (or from within the console, cd to the same directory as the disk image)

(with a CD or DVD ready to be burned, in the drawer of the DVD burner).

One last question : have you ever cleaned the lens of this device ?
