Can anyone tell me what the best kernel is to run on the i3 intel processor??

Latest? What are you looking for? Specifically, you need to know what chipset you're using. X58? Z68? Then you just need a kernel that has support for it.

it depends more on the amount of ram you have

if you have less than 4 gbs of ram the bfs or the a64 is good

if you have 4 gbs of ram or more the pae or the pae.bfs is the best option for you

the second option handles all the ram you could have in pclinux 32 bit while the first improves on some desktop situations

if you have a older kernel on a old iso, better download pclinux 2011.9 so you have a very recent kernel supporting the possible gpu on the cpu you could be using
