[SOLVED] Opera browser problem updating 11.50 to 11.60
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:13:41 AM »
Hi friends,

I did a update yesterday from Synaptic. Opera 11.50 was updated to 11.60, appear the new 11.60 in,  but when I run Opera is still 11.50.

I uninstalled 11.60 from synaptic, but 11.50 is still running - and don't appear in synaptic... ??? -

Is very weird...

Any idea to solve it?

Remove opera using the procedure listed above. Reboot. In a root (su + root password) terminal issue these commands:
Code: [Select]
updatedb
and then:
Code: [Select]
locate opera
and post the results of this second command.

Aleph,
Open File Manager Superuser (Root PCManFM), navigate to /var/cache/apt/archives/ and delete opera-11.60-1pclos2011.i586.rpm. With your browser closed, run bleachbit and bleachbit root. This should clean up the first 849 lines and the last line from the locate command. Reboot.

Hi Neal ManBear,

Did you reboot before reinstalling opera?

Try removing opera and switching to a different repo before installing opera.

Hi Neal ManBear,

I rebooted, deleted /var/cache/apt/archives/opera-11.60-1pclos2011.i586.rpm, and reinstalled Opera Twice... And Opera 11.50 is still running when I select Opera from menu, but... I did Alt+F2 and a version of Opera 11.60 booted, I have 2 versions of Opera running...

How to solve?

Have you ever installed a version of Opera yourself?

I was remembering, I think I did from the Opera webpage months ago...

Removing that one should cure the problem (remove the things you did then).... remember: asking in package suggest for upgrades is far much better than installing something outside of the repo's
=> then you get such things like this  ::) :D

After removing the way you added it months ago (so, all traces removed), remove it too in Synaptic (if 11.60 doesn't work properly after that) [remove totally option in Synaptic - including all configs]; and then add it again via Synaptic....

Success (and don't forget to take a backup first of your data present in (both?) Opera-versions  :))
