SOLVED - A malformed website
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:26:43 PM »
Very occasionally when I go to a website I am faced with not the normal appearance but with a page without images and only the links of the site running down the left-hand side.

It is not that the site is having problems as it happens every time I visit that particular site over many days. Any help much appreciated. Thank you

Sounds like someone has their web site set up to just point you to a directory.

Can you provide a link? It doesn't sound like there is anything wrong on your end.

Does every other web site you visit show up normal?

Yes, no trouble with other websites - in fact this has only happened on two sites to date.
The link is my bank so I can't use an alternate sitet. ;D

That link takes me to the following page, are you not seeing this page?

Thanks Rudge - yes that's the place I want to be. Just tried again but didn't get it. I've tried a number of links and they work fine but give me a similar text only view. So, it must be something on my side - but what. ???

Maurice,

What you haven't said is what web browser you're using, whether you've tried other web browsers, if you've tried creating a new user to see if the problem still exists there, and whether this seems to happen on sites using flash video. (The Adelaide Bank website is using flash on the main page.)

It needn't be. The W3C validator reports 17 XHTML errors in the coding of the page. That said, it looks great here, both in Firefox and in Konqueror.

Thanks guys for the help. It seems my browser is at fault. I tried both Konky and Chromium and they both brought it up correctly.

I'll check on my flash on Firefox and, for good measure, tell the Bank of the 17 errors. ;D

Thanks again - solved in double quick time.
