Hi,
I think yenta, pcmcia should be unloaded, ipv6 maybe deactivated, maybe uncheck a few options in the advanced section of the wifi. The details here:

This Acer notebook wifi card uses some Intel ipw drivers, maybe the 2100, or the 2200 (difficult to say with so little info a there is here... then the mac address of the wifi interface should be added to the wifi router, to be especially authorised.

Finally, the configuration would work probably better with a fixed ip instead of DHCP (only a guess, I don't know what kamikota uses : dhcp is probable as it's the simplest to configure).

Any additional questions ?

Although your problem is not yet solved, this means that if you post this problem in the networking section, it won't be dismissed as an Openbox problem. There will be a lot more people see and respond to your wireless problem, I expect.

Hi Melodie
PLEASE excuse the delay--->>>
The only one that I could not find was the one with your jpeg

SO downloaded several distros - just now tried Zen 11.11.11 FMJ - found it worke3d and installed and for now there has been NO reverting to "unlisted"

Do not know why the difference - but this is early days yet as it has only been installed for 30mins or so,

Yet in OpenBox - internet wifi would cut back to unlisted fairly frequently

Hi,

I guess it is therefore more simple for you to use Zen 11.11. At least you have a solution, and a good spinoff !

Not So Melodie

It lasted all of about 45 mins then we were back the same way I think --->>>

As I was so downhearted did not check - just know it would not connect to the Web browser - same symptoms with OpenBox - as time was too long i think

So just evacuated and went back to painting to recover the Psychie

I read this and wonder , why no one has requested lspci to be posted.

we know its a centrino N1000 but not what revision it is, ifconfig and iwconfig would be handy too as basic trouble shooting tools.

I see that ZRAM is active in the modules list , I would suggest disabling it (for trouble shooting purposes).

Is the iwlwifi-1000-ucode package installed ? (along with the other iwlwifi -ucode packages?)

Excellent suggestions, Jase.

I didn't start that discussion because I was looking for whether it was an Openbox only problem first. Since he tried Zen, it appears that it affects at least one other version, so zram is probably not connected. I also hoped to get kamicota to make a post in the networking section because I am no expert it wireless. I've had a little experience struggling with 3g configuration, but wifi has worked for me without any manual configuration for many years, so I'm a little rusty at troubleshooting. ;D

One suggestion I would add is when the wireless drops, open a terminal, type su to become root, and then type: ifup wlan0. If it works, good, but if not it might report a meaningful error. Substitute whatever the name of the connection is for you wireless. You can find it by typing ifconfig. It will be the one that is not lo or eth0.

jase & galen

Thank you for the observations!!!

As it is Nighty Nights here - will look at lspci to ifconfig and iwconfig and type su to become root, and then type: ifup wlan0. If it works, good, but if not it might report a meaningful error. Substitute whatever the name of the connection is for you wireless. You can find it by typing ifconfig. It will be the one that is not lo or eth0 and Of course plus--->>> Is the iwlwifi-1000-ucode package installed ? (along with the other iwlwifi -ucode packages?) - tomorrow.

Have had enough curve balls OF MY OWN MAKING thrown at me today - in other areas too.

Kamikota,
I did a new screenshot, with the English words, for you. Could you check this part of your configuration ? And also could you configure your wifi connection to use a fix IP ? (with the "setup the connection manually"). ie: 192.168.1.15 if the adress range your router uses is 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.0.15 if it is a family address where the third group is a 0, and so on...

Don't put "Fr" for the regulatory domain. ;)

Hootiegibbon : I wonder why each time someone has an issue with something in an Openbox version you point out to zram. Is it because it is not currently used in PCLinuxOS ? I regret that it is not, because if it would, we might have people interested to learn how to tweak it according to different configurations, maybe get someone to be interested to make a gui to configure options (activate/deactivate, add more % of the available RAM when there is a lot in a machine, or less for test purpose... create several ramdisks instead of one... with maybe different levels of priorities... Most modern distributions have used Compcache (the project where the use of zram comes from) for a long time now, including some well known rpm distributions, as you can see here. I have myself used it during several years in several distributions, a very light one, and another, several machines, and never a problem arized due to it's use. You might want to give it a try in one of your Light systems.

Mélodie
