Is it really only me??? (who needs hafuch-al-hafuch)
« on: December 03, 2011, 11:27:23 PM »
In the W*ze world, everyone uses it. Is it possible that
we linux users are all such geniuses that we NEVER
type in the wrong keyboard layout by mistake?

All except me I mean. :-)

I posted in the software suggestion area
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,98988.0.html
to request the linux version of "hafuch-al-hafuch", to translate English
text typed in Hebrew keyboard back to English, and Hebrew
text typed in English keyboard back to Hebrew.

But it got no comments at all. :-(

Maybe no one here in Israel reads that section?

Just wondering...

shimoni,

It looks to me like you made a proper package request. You might want to add the Behafucha source code tarball link to your original post.

I'd say there are two possibilities. (1) The packagers are working a lot right now on a 64bit release. I've noticed Texstar often releases a new or upgraded package now as a 64bit one first. It could be they just haven't gotten to the task yet. (2) No other users have asked for this package yet.

One or both would be my best guess.

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

Else, I saw: http://mailman.cs.huji.ac.il/pipermail/linux-il/2011-January/006308.html

Maybe it can be of some use ?

Shimon,

It looks as though your package request is fine but did not get high visibility due to the number of impending developments taking place and the pressure on the packagers.

Just to set your mind at ease: imagine sitting here in Amsterdam trying to type Hebrew on a keyboard that does not even have the aleph-beth printed on the keys! I keep guessing: was the Het on the H-key or on the G, where is the Ayin? Usually I end up typing 2 keys, backspacing one etc. etc. I more or less gave up hope of writing Hebrew in the first place and end up writing transliterated Hebrew with Latin characters. Hevanta oti ?

Have you tried finding someone local who is knowledgeable in packaging or maybe even compiling yourself and using checkinstall to generate an RPM?

Layla tov!

PS: maybe Sefy can help you if he's around to read this. If not, try PM'ing him?

Checkinstall apparently does not compile with the newer rpm setup unfortunately, so it is a non-runner.

Hello,
Checkinstall has been compiled on my system after I asked help from the dev. Please see ... no, the thread has been removed ! :(

Looks like you're still using an old version of checkinstall. Download the
latest from the git repository at:

http://checkinstall.izto.org/checkinstall.git

This has worked for me.
