full screen flash video
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:40:00 PM »
I recently installed pclos to my hard drive, and most things are great, there's just a few kinks to iron out. One being full screen video from a browser. normal size and even midsize YouTube and other videos work fine, but as soon as i try to fullscreen the video, video playback gets choppy for a second, then freezes completely, occasionally unfreezing to chop a few more times before it refreezes again. Mousing over the bottom of the screen to bring up controls doesn't work and escaping out of the video does't work immediately, i have to press the escape key several times before it finally recognizes it or unfreezes long enough to kick me out of full screen mode, where the video picks back up where it was without hesitation. During the chop/freeze situation, audio is mostly unaffected, tho the longer it goes the choppier it gets. it happens in both Chromium and firefox, so im assuming its a flash issue.

I've reinstalled the flash extension from synaptic, and noticed the version number being 11.1, which i believe is current.

also, watching a fullscreen movie from vlc doesn't cause any problems at all, so im assuming its not a video driver issue.

any help would be appreciated

Ariakkas:

How about telling us what hardware you have, how much RAM, whether you are fully upgraded, and what release image you used for your installation. That way we have a more accurate idea of what we are dealing with, and don't have to assume anything. ;D ;D

sure thing.

i downloaded the iso about a week ago, but not sure which release image it was, i would assume it still the most recent unless there was an update within the past week. it is fully upgraded through synaptic

im running 4gb of ram on a 64 bit system, with the 32 bit version of pclos

if there's anything else you need just lemme know, thanks

hello and welcome to the forum

the hardware specs you need to share with us is the cpu, ram and video card in use

specifically the video card

the system is 64 bit but remember that pclinux is a 32 bit distro so it doesn't matter at the moment, soon there will be a 64 bit distro but that is another topic

flash in linux is a pita and specially when you don't have the right video driver in use

Adobe flash player is still a ugly duck in Linux software land :(
Solve freezes and crashes is disable the hardware acceleration in your used browser or flash player.
