XFCE 4.8 - how to add new printer?
« on: November 23, 2011, 07:21:39 AM »
Hi,
just downloaded the new Phoenix 2011-7 and considering installing it on my grandpa's PC instead older PCLOS 2009 with KDE3 (which is almost impossible to upgrade). Just discovered that I am unable to add new printer - in Xfce settings manager, there is icon called Printing, but it only offers me to choose betweetn "none", "CUPS" and "BSD-LPR". However, choosing any of those ones do not have any result and there is only "Close" button. I am just running it on one PC with connected old LPT HP 5L printer, but plan to install it on another one with Oki B4100 printer (also LPT).

I looked for some GUI tool to add new printer but did not find anything. Did I anything wrong? I googled a little and found older post about printerdrake, but there is no such tool and also did not find anything in synaptic.

thanks  ;)

Assure yourself that task-printing is installed in Synaptic...

Then start PCLinuxOS Control Center, and set your printer (you can find it in the menu I think);
or else from terminal:
Code: [Select]
drakconf(I think that's the right command; else, just type "drak" in the terminal and press <tab>, and then type in the right command, listed in the output)
