wow I feel like I don't understand half of what Hootiegibbon post  ???

A few things keeps ringing, I search for them and something is learned at the end.
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Seriously though, you can learn a lot from Jase's posts. :) It just takes a little determination and concentration.

Nice one.  :)
This is just what I wanted because I'm just starting to make a remote backup server to back up my daughters laptop when she goes to uni.

I'm trying to use an old 'HP e-Vectra',  Intel 111, 600Mhz 256 ram, Video card 82810E. So I needed a light weight iso.

I will try all 4 iso's .
The one I have installed is PCLinuxOS Raw Light.
I always have problems with the CD rom in the above machine detecting any live CD, so I take out the hard drive and put it in another machine to install it then move it back to finish off the installation.

Using 'synaptic' I have installed Luckybackup, xxxterm, pcmanfm.

1... How do I add these to the Menu to launch them ? as I had to use a 'Terminal'.

2... Should there be on the Top RH corner of any open program an X and minimizing buttons ?.

3.. With xxxterm there was not way to shut it down !.

Did you check the md5sum on the download? And on the CD after burning it?

pclinmike,

If the iso md5sum is good, and i assume you are using teh default
(very minimal) configuration for IceWM-light try the following to get
your rightclick menu

open a terminal and su to root then type in the following.

ldconfig && updatedb
xdg_menu && update-menus
exit

this willplace you back as the user then type

xdg_menu && updatedb

alternately install the "full" IceWM or another light window manager.

By default there is no window-effects in place, although window
controls still work from the keyboard and from the mouse if you hover
over the top edge of a window so that the resize arrow shows and then
right click you should be presented with the window menu

you could always rename the .icewm folder in your user account then
log out and in this will replace the config with that of the standerd
IceWM-Light look found in the root account which you may find more
tradional

xxxterm comes with a really good help-page that shows when you press
f1 (yea its a manpage really but most people seem to get a bit scared
by that term even when its well written so help-page will suffice),
have a read about the command mode that it enters when you press the
colon key ( ie ':') and try :quit

I was thinking of removing the default IceWM-light and GDM , but after
tests this will remove the "finish install" mechanism that happens on
first boot, so I will keep them in place and refine them a little.

Bleachbit only supports some applications, which is extended in the bleachbit-extra package, which appsis it that are not showing?

Just downloaded both - the XZ version should fit on a mini-CDR, and I have a box of those sitting here waiting for a good use.  May try it out (and install?) on my netbook (Atom 450, 160 gb HDD, 1 gb RAM).

OK tonight tried the first one on your main download page 'ratposion'
Like @scoundrel I did not think it was working until I read your piece in the Nov issue of the magazine, cannot get on with it.
I next tried the second one down on your main download page 464mb (I call this one PCLinuxOS Hoot  ;D)
Now this one I like because I can see the menu list at the top of each program by clicking on the triangle, I then installed 'Luckybackup' logged out then in again and that now shows in the main menu list when you left click and hold down .

This is all too excellent, Hootie. Thank you.

One thing though, when I was asked to install task-x11, it automatically selected the nouveau driver. I clicked Test and the screen was blank for a very long time. I hard boot and did the same except click Test and everything was OK.

I have gone back to Raw-Light, I have nu-installed IceWM and installed Razor, arora, qtfm, luckybackup.
I like Razor and it's got a clock on the desktop.
I have a problem with a broken package !, I have tried to mend it with 'Synaptic' but it will not mend.

libdri-drivers

If I could copy and paste In to this window I could give you the error message.

Edit, I also can not paste into a file in the 'qtwm' window, you can open folders but you can not open any files.
Have I got something missing ?.

mm not sure , try using the fix broken packages option in synaptic, or reinstall libdri-drivers, ensure that task-qt is installed also, I will try and replicate later.
