Possibly the SiS graphics, choose teh second boot option , then if you get localhost login do so and use XFdrake to use either fbdev or vesa

I understand QT put less stress to memory resources, is that right?  what about the load on the CPU?
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Great news!

no, root was meant to mirror that of the user, as minimal as possible, only leaving enough usability to get started with a custom install

I am toying with the idea of removing the existing icewm-light and gdm and having the livecd boot up into a custom X-environment (ie no window manager , possibly using webkit/html as a front end to launch pcc/configuration tools/synaptic/etc via matchbox), the aim here is not to have a usable environment out the box but to provide all teh tools needed to generate a PCLinxuOS based custom install - I am open to thoughts on this, - and open to ideas how to potentially embed a matchbox-window within a html page...

Lightest in the repo is probably Ratpoison but you will loose all bling, and be more reliant on key bindings than menu apps, IceWM-Light IS the lightest "traditional" window manager,but lacks a clock etc,  the normal IceWM is not much heavier and has everything you expect a window manager and is very very configurable, next up would probably be fvwm2 or blackbox (blackbox is slightly higher maintenance for keeping menus up to date etc) the tiling window managers are light also, WMii has teh power of a virtual file system and the ability to be configured in pretty much any language (bash,ruby,perl,python etc).

Razor, is a "light" QT environment , likely to be a little heavier than the above, but have looks similar to that of KDE, there a myriad qt apps including "qtfm" which is a file manager in qt, a qt web(kit based) browser "arora" or "rekonq" the latter MAY bring in the kde base though (although that may not be too bad in a qt-derived system and would open up having kde apps in a non-kde environment. (you may want to add "export DE=kde" to bashrc though)

I was toying with the idea of releasing a "Q&D" Razor iso, maybe later though
