Not sure how you define a true NAS.

Something with a processor and OS.  It wouldn't be a "share," just another device on the network.

The Drobo FS qualifies on both counts.

Mine is a Drobo FS connected to my main PC via a Gigabit switch. I also connect to a RaspberryPi, also running samba, with the same consequences.

Are you assigning them static IP addresses?  That may make a difference...  even though it shouldn't.

Yes. Static IPs for the wired devices (also recorded in the hosts files) but DHCP for the laptops and tablet that go travelling.

Thanks for the replies. I normally check every week but for the past week I've checked every day. I usually use the nluug.nl 2011 repository (64 bit) but I've also tried four or five others (one at a time of course) with the same lack of result.

I press 'Reload' and 'Mark all upgrades' and get 'No package is selected'

i don't mean the pop up bubble. i meant the entry in the configuration window. sorry if i wasnt clear

i just made the configuration window a bit wider so each text box has more room for more text.I can always make them bigger if the text dont fit,do they fit now?

I think it might be related to pc land of smiles "pclos"  rather then a distro.  Not be uncommon to use something like pclos as many in forums ref. to Thailand as los i.e. land of smiles.

just a spam site and that also would be right up the los way of doing things.

Thanks for all your replies. I will investigate further. I have got an external drive but that's got my data backup on it(lots if photos). So, I will have to invest in another external drive. Thanks for your help.

I am not surprised.

I do not know, nor have I ever known a distro called "PCLOS".

I always make a point to call PCLinuxOS by it's name and I cringe every time I see someone spell it or abbreviate it as "PCLOS".

I am NOT surprised that someone has capitalized on that name.

PCLOS is a phantom distro that does not exist.
