Software Discussion / Re: mate-text-editor (pluma)
« Last post by Texstar on Today at 05:32:28 PM »
One of the things that has kept me from staying with lxde for my limited hardware is the lack of a non-kde simple text editor with highlighting for rpm spec files. To my surprise, pluma has this by default! Unfortunately, in it's current configuration there is a missing dependency and it doesn't work without task-mate installed. There is probably only one or two dependencies, but I haven't tracked them down. If this can be fixed with a packaging change, pluma could be my go to replacement for kwrite.

Here is the error:
Code: [Select]
[galen@localhost ~]$ pluma

(pluma:6286): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.mate.lockdown' is not installed

Trace/breakpoint trap

The mate-desktop package contains /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.mate.lockdown.gschema.xml file

MiniMe/E17/Openbox / Re: Remaster E17 by OH !
« Last post by Texstar on Today at 05:27:31 PM »
Hi, the latest iso uploaded will be the last one,
I kept updating and trying to improve the iso,
with a view that the pclinuxos community would again have an official e17 version.
Sadly the iso's I remastered have all not been seen fit for purpose as an official version.
I wish to thank all the community who have helped to improve the iso.
Best wishes,
OnlyHuman

Just to clarify the above statement. There is apparently a bug identified (2 hours ago) somewhere in either the creation of the ISO or the installation routine where the keyboard setting in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard is ignored upon booting the installed system and defaults to the US keyboard. We are looking into the situation.

Software Discussion / Re: Anyone remember FORTH?
« Last post by Bald Brick on Today at 05:15:29 PM »
Forth was (or is) the most elegant (and sensible) programming language I have ever tinkered with. Brodie's
Starting Forth and Thinking Forth still hold places of honour in my bookshelf, even if I haven't reread them in a decade or two.

Inspired by this thread I think I'll start looking for a modern implementation of Forth.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gforth   ......  latest release this year  ;)   ;D

Have at it!  ;D

Thanks, Just17. After I read your post I've already downloaded Gforth from http://bernd-paysan.de/gforth.html# - even if I think it's a bit paradoxical that you'd need anything but Forth (and perhaps a tiny bit of machine code) to compile Forth. (From your link: "Gforth uses GCC to compile a fast direct or indirect threaded Forth".)

When I last used Forth the problem was that I'd got accustomed to a graphical interface, and I didn't get that in Forth. Forth is of course more than just a programming language; it used to be an entire (non-graphical) operating system. And perhaps a philosophy.

Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come (THE REAL VERSION; CD QUALITY; LYRICS)

After the last update my Ext. HDD (the backup drive) link is no longer active!
All I have now is: /media/6ccebd02-2b61-4626-91f8-957e4bcde69c

And if I link to that weird folder it becomes inactive upon reboot! >:(

How do I get the HDD to automount at startup?

(This is why I don't update)
