Software / Grrr ... back to 3.2.18 - again
« Last post by OldProfessorBear on Today at 08:21:22 PM »
After the synaptic update (primarily X stuff it seemed) went off well today, I bit the bullet and installed kernel 3.2.45, hoping that the issues that had appeared for me in 3.2.44 were resolved.

It seemed OK for about two minutes, then the display in Firefox started to go haywire ... kind of hard to describe, but lines of text disappeared or were replaced by miscellaneous lines and blobs, sort of. Scrolling up and down, these mutated ...

So it was a great relief that I was actually able to boot back into 3.2.18, without any of the weird stuff. This was not the same issue I saw in 3.2.44, where things just locked up on me (for instance, keyboard and mouse buttons/wheel had no effect, though the mouse moved the cursor normally). I forget the other symptoms at the moment. Oh, yes, and as I mentioned elsewhere, I was unable to boot back into 3.2.18 that time, until I managed to get synaptic stable enough to remove 3.2.44 and reinstall 3.2.18, which took several tries.

At least this time, 3.2.18 was still viable. I won't bother to remove 3.2.45, but I won't boot into it either!

PCLinuxOS Phoenix (Xfce) / Re: My "Homemade" PCLinuxOS - Xfce

Thanks!  I finally figured out how to get rid of the others... one was the "Qt update notifier," but since I have no Qt apps installed I removed it from the panel.  Solved, thanks!

Still playing,
Artim
