I've re-installed my desktop system and hit a problem...

When I "reload" in synaptic, I get an error message of
"Could not download all repository indexes

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences."

I tried checking all the repositary boxes, this did result in many updates downloading, but my system then would not boot at all.  I've reinstalled again but still got the same problem with synaptic.  But confused, as I've installed from this Huh live CD before with no problems ?

Rule one for upgrading, never more than one repository mirror checked at one time. If you get a message as you did, the repository mirror is syncing. Either try later, or choose another repo mirror. If you choose a different mirror, click Reload again.

Thanks

Now managed to find a suitable repositary

However now it says I must fix broken packages first

The broken package is libnet-snmp25
Libraries for Network management (SNMP), from the NET-SNMP project

What do I actually do ?  I unticked the box but it looks like loads of things depend upon it

In Synaptic, click on Edit --> Fix Broken Packages.

I've tried fix broken packages and get this error

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
E: Unable to correct dependencies

It's too old to update properly. Download the latest ISO and try again. If too much time passes between updates, this will happen. You were trying to update a year old OS. Good luck.

Thanks folks, we live and learn !!

Makes total sense now I think about it, with it being a "rolling release"

We only test updating from the last released ISO.
