Running PCLOS 2010-12-15. At install last year ptunterdrake found and correctly installed the LJ4+, it's been printing happily since.  Until I updated last week. I now get 'invalid pers(onality) message when I print anything.

The following are installed:

HPLIP
task-printing
task-printing-hp
CUPS

And CUPS is set to start at boot.

I lost cupsd.conf following the update, but using the cups web interface (to add my ID and root as allowed used) generated a new default one.
I'm not what changes I need to make to it though (my group name is the same as my user name.), or if I need to install anything else.

NOTE: The printer works perfectly in Win7 and Mint Debian (both patched and fully updated).

PCLinuxOS 2011 2 - KDE4

ip1900 stopped working after updates.  Was working fine the other day.

Everything looks normal and reinstalled - all looks like should work but only flashes the printer light twice then clears Q without printing anything.  Will not send a test page from set up ether.  Works fine via Windows in VB which is my work around presently.  No the device is not cap by VB when I try it Cheesy  I already checked that.  It just clears the Q before it prints anything if asked to print by linux.

cups + Gutenprint v5.2.7 simplified
cups on boot
cups lpd    start on demend
shared
enabled
config printers shows it green check mark and ready.
It also shows in smb as shared printer but won't do anything when asked.

PCLinuxOS 2011 2 - KDE4

OK I have a spirit in my system.  About 5 minutes ago the notifier jumps up saying my printer is ready.  OK  so I checked and it works again.   Something had it hanging?  In config it always said it was ready but didn't work.

I was hoping what ever it was would solve both of these printing issues, but    I don't know what I did.

Progress (of sorts)

doing echo -en "blah\f\r" > /dev/usb/lp0

gives a page with 'blah' on it. printing from Firefox/Libre Office gives the following:

First submitted job status 'Pending', subsequent jobs status 'processing'

So, If I can print from 'echo' in a terminal, why can't Firefox, Libre Office Writer etc. do the same.  Is it a queue issue?

I am not expert but printing from the terminal may not use cups etc just directly to dev but not sure.  Seems you have stuff in the Q progress and pending but no output.  In the print config is the printer halted by a setting?  Mine was online and ready but the Q was being dumped to nowhere and then it just popped up again in the notifier and started working Huh?  its got me.

Since none of the obvious stuff worked, I tried deleting and re-installing with a different driver.

This one works: HP LaserJet 4 Plus pcl3, hpcups 3.alot (color, 2-sided printing)
