Googleearth is in the repos. Look I do have it:
Quote
$ rpm -qil googleearth
Name        : googleearth                  Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version     : 6.0.2.2074                        Vendor: (none)
Release     : 1pclos2011                    Build Date: lun. 11 avril 2011 11:37:59 CEST

I have the following sections enabled: main updates nonfree kde4 games special.

If you have already installed Google Earth, it will show up in a Synaptic or rpm search. If you have not yet installed Google Earth, it will not show up in a Synaptic or rpm search. Please see here.

I've seen your thread, checked in my Synaptic, and indeed, the column "component" is empty, which means it's not in the repositories at the moment. How come ?

Probably an alien abduction.

Those crazy aliens!

I suspect it's something to do with LSB. Archie says,

But just so no one gets their hope too high. 6.1 needs lsb equal to 3.2 or greater and our seems to be only at 2.0. And I'm telling you now it is not that easy to get these things done so please be patient.

Further down in that thread, hoos says he was able to install the newer package manually. (Not recommended, unless you know how to do it and can accept any unforseen consequences.)

Nope. lsb is just fine and provides 3.2. Normally I just download their rpm and put it in our repo but 6.1 menu entry is broken so that means I have to install it then prepare a tarball from the install and spec file and a correct desktop file and put it all together in a package.

The version of Google Earth I use is 6.0.2.2074, I have a beautiful menu entry which works:

Quote
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Google Earth
GenericName=3D planet viewer
Comment=Explore, search and discover the planet
Exec=/opt/google/earth/free/google-earth %f
Terminal=false
MultipleArgs=false
Icon=google-earth
Type=Application
Categories=Network;X-MandrivaLinux-Internet-Other;
MimeType=application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml;application/vnd.google-earth.kmz;application/earthviewer;application/keyhole

I could give a try to the new Google Earth, and look at the menu entry to see what's wrong ? I suppose the newer GE brings nice improvements and is worth getting it ? (ie : if you stay in front of your door saying hi, I could see you ! Grin )

Regards,
Mélodie

Yes, I know that. I'm talking about the Google Earth 6.1. The menu entry in their rpm has to be changed which means ... see my post above.

Which means the rpm has to be redone. I understand it. It's a pity the file can't be changed from within the existing rpm. The only difference is the Category:
it needs to be :
Categories=Network;X-MandrivaLinux-Internet-Other;

whereas actually it is:
Categories=Application;Network

I just installed the latest Google Earth 32bits rpm from Google place on a test install. I changed the desktop file categories line. I am now visiting Houston ! ^^ (the commercial centers are strange, the stores seem closed... Sad Grin )

The desktop file I copied above works.

PS: I found this PCLinuxOS src rpm of a previous version (googleearth-6.0.0.1735-1pclos2010), could it help to make a new spec file ?
