So I'm trying to figure out how to add Salix 13.37 to menu.lst, basing its stanza on what I have for other distros.  There's a significant difference, though -- Salix (and by extension, Slackware) installs w/o initrd, which my other distros both currently include.  Can I just ignore the lack?

Should be something like this. You'll have to change the partition numbers to match your installation.

title SalixOS
root (hd0,5)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz quiet root=/dev/hda6 vt.default_utf8=1 ro vga = 788
boot
