I'm using the Hootiegibbon remaster and the DE is Window Maker, the computer is a nettop Aspire with an Atom 230, 1GB Memory and Nvidia ION LE Graphics, I installed the proprietary drivers but is the same with free drivers . In PCC video is configured as 1680x 1050 but images with that size are too big for the screen which made me think resolution is wrong. This is Xorg.conf, do you see something in all that? Is there another way to configure video in WindowMaker? # File generated by XFdrake (rev 262502)

Hey Crow, Just picked up on the fact its an nvidia card - check out the nvidia configuration app, I think it may be setting it lower than you want ( Have had a nvidia 6200 card that does this ) if so let us know. The other app you can run in a terminal is 'xrandr' $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 2048 x 2048 LVDS1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0*+ 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
As you can see it tells you the minimum and maximum your gfx card is capable of (not the screensize) Jase

This is what I get with xrandr, still looking for the Nvidia configuration app [crow@localhost ~]$ xrandr xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.0 56.0 700x525 60.0 640x480 60.0 512x384 60.0 320x240 60.0
BTW I had LXDE before in this machine and it used 1680x 1050

In PCC how does the configure graphics card screen look ? Th Nvidia app is found in "more applications" > "configuration" (so long as the proprietary xserver is installed) Jase

The Nvidia app in X Screen 0 shows 1024x768 depth 16 bit. PCC shows: GeForce 6100 to GeForce 360 Monitor Flat Panel 1680x1050 Resolution 1680x1050 16 bpp Options: Enable translucency, Use hardware accelerated mouse pointer, Enable RENDER Aceleration Automatic start up This computer has (soon to be erased, guarantee just ended ) win7 in another partition and the card picks the 1680x1050 resolution, just tried it

Renamed Xorg.conf and it gave me another (worst) resolution, used XFdrake --auto and returned me to 1024x768

I installed nv driver and xrandr give me this [crow@localhost ~]$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1400 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1680 VGA1 connected 1400x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1680x1050_60 60.0 1600x1000_60 60.0 1400x1050 60.0* 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900_60 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1280x800_60 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 DVI1 disconnected [crow@localhost ~]$
So, 1680x1050 is possible but it seems to be a problem with nvidia drivers Edit. Back to the nvidia drivers and back to the same problem

Back to the nvidia drivers and back to the same problem OK so you have answered my next question already, I have a few things to tie up - then will look into which nvidia driver is compatible with the card you have. Whats the "native" resolution of your monitor? with the nv xserver in use can you resize (via PCC) to your desired resolution? Jase

PCC shows monitor as 1680x1050 and resolution 1680x1050
xrandr keeps showing 1400x1050
Native resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050

My monitor is HP w2007, in PCC I only can find drivers for HP w1907 and HP w2207, those are 19in and 22in mine is 20in.
I tried to use both with the nv driver and it gave me resolutions very high but PCC still had 1680x1050
BTW In another machine I have a partition with KDE4 and the monitor driver is HP w2007, obviously it was retired at some point.
