I am having no luck getting sound. I installed Pulse and pavucontrol. I looked at the other posts but could not decipher what to do. If someone could explain it very simply, assume you're talking to some one who is very computer illiterate-cause you are Grin I would greatly appreciate it. I just learned how to run terminal in another distro based distros and know absolutely not much else. Smiley THANK YOU for your time and consideration.

Some information would be helpful.

Is this a new install?

Was it the latest ISO?

What Desktop Environment?  (KDE, Gnome, One of the others?)

When did you last update your system?

I know, lots of questions but we need to know this stuff before we can help.

I could make guesses, and I might be on target but they would still be guesses.  Wink Grin

Open pavucontrol.
On the Configuration tab you should see your listing for the USB speakers in addition to any other sound device that might be fitted ....  on board sound card, PCI sound card etc.

Ensure that the USB speakers are enabled there .....  not Off.

Next play a sound file with some application, and go to the Playback tab in pavucontrol.

There the app should be listed and you should now be able to choose - for that app - which speakers to send the sound to.

The setting will be remembered, so the next time you use that app it will attempt to use the same speakers, if plugged in. If not I believe it will revert to the default speakers ...  but am not certain of this for every situation.

A similar set up can be done for Headphone & MIC

For instance I have a VOIP application that uses my USB connected wireless headphone & MIC, while a video app will use the speakers connected to my PCI sound card, and yet another app will use a bluetooth connected earphone & MIC.

good luck .......  it really works well when you get the hang of it  Wink
