Hi djohnston,

Thank you very much. Therefore it's not use fancy a setup of this type as a default. (I think maybe it was not necessary to do a remaster to test this : just changing the attribute, rebooting, creating a new user should have shown the result)

Regards,

So do we look at idesk as icon manager for pclos edu?

A couple of points of interest - idesk now allows icons to be dragged around the desktop, or whatever we call the thing on the screen because we technically don't have a desktop!!  Anyway, it means we can do a graphical layout and then save that to file.  No co-ordinate stuff!

Second - PCManFM doesn't need to be disabled regarding icons.  Just remove the ones you don't need from the Desktop folder and they are gone.  Other icons can be added at any time without messing up the idesk ones.  Although that needs to be tested.

All of this can be copied into the /skel folder for remaster.

Sorry - gotta fly.  Dinner has hit the table and I am being yelled at!!!

Hi,

I said I found Idesk complicated to use. Would you want me to use that old program, when PCLinuxOS Edu contains only shiny very new versions of all applications ?

Regards,
Mélodie

Hi,

chattr with options seems a better choice to me. Feel free to comment, and particularly let me know if a newer version of idesk comes out.

Hi,

I just applied the command "chattr +i" on the files of the desktop, then wanted to try with the files under /etc/skel/Desktop, to get this also applied to new users, but after I create a test user, the attributes didn't follow.

I am interested about any thoughts on the matter.
