I use PCLinuxOS Gnome 2010.12. I've upgraded fglrx for my Acer Aspire One 522's ATI display driver (at first, to wipe "AMD Unsupported Hardware watermark"). The wireless (Broadcom BCM4313) is recognized very well without installing any driver. Great first impression.
But I can't watch any video in Totem nor VLC, while I can hear the sound from the movie. Any solutions? Thanks.

hello and welcome to the forum!

have you updated completely the system?  partial updates are problematic

please open a console and write uname -r and post the results

I didn't update everything, afraid of bloating the harddisk Smiley. "uname -r" returns "2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs".
Prior this installation, once I installed & upgraded the kernel to 2.6.38.8, but it caused the system couldn't be entered after reboot. So I reinstalled & didn't intend to upgrade the kernel again Smiley, but fglrx.

Not sure if you were aware at the time but on first boot of a new kernel it has to build a few device drivers and can take a few minutes before it gets to the desktop. This has been documented in the software announcements area. Also you still have your previous kernel in place in the event there is some kind of problem with the new kernel so re-installation was not required.

For VLC there is a preference tab in the menu and you can select video and try different playback libraries until you achieve the results you desire. X11 seems to work well for me though you might need a different one.

I cannot speak for Totem as the developers have pretty much ruined it for me so don't use it because of its limited ability to playback various formats.

Thanks for the reply, Texstar. I'm not going to install VLC, because I found Gnome Mplayer Smiley. I tried it to play the video and it worked well. Well, it's indeed Totem's problem, not the OS Smiley.
By the way, I also have the same problem that I got on another distro, that sound from netbook's speakers comes out while headphones get plugged in. The speakers are supposed to get muted, right? On another distro I got this problem and then made some scripts in alsa-base.conf (snd-hda-intel option) following tips I found on some forums. But it didn't make the problem gone. I wonder if you have some solutions for this? Thanks.

I just found that Cheese Webcam Booth doesn't show anything while it's supposed to display my face, but it generates my photo after I press Take A Photo button.
