I found a linux driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.28.run) for the video card (G84M (Quadro NVS 140M)) for my IBM T61 on the nVidia website.  The driver downloaded is specifically for the NVS 140M.

GeForce 6100 to GeForce 360 is the driver that PCC indicates is currently being used.  Does anyone know what driver is in the 2011.6 release?

Are there any advantages to installing the exact driver from the mfg?  How do I go about installing the new driver?

Unless you are using the nouveau driver the NVidia drivers are from the NVidia site

BTW, there is an 2011.09 release which uses the 280.13 version

Edit - if you have 2011.06 version installed and are fully upto date you should have the 280.13 version (unless you specifically declined that update)

Just exactly how am I supposed to know the driver in the 2011.09 release is the 280.13 version when I haven't the foggiest what that version is?

Open Synaptic. Do a search for dkms-nvidia. dkms-nvidia-current package is listed as version 280.13-1pclos2011.

Another way is to open up the Nvidia Display settings panel located in Menu>More Applications>Configuration. Right in front it states the driver version you are using.  Cool

Many thanks to djohnston & Linuzoid for their comments.  One of the few times I have gotten direct answers to a legitimate question.
