I installed iTunes on XP and want to be able to play tunes. Everything works except sound. I cannot fix it with the usual controls. Hence this crie de coeur. Anyone know about these issues?

is it necessary to run the virtual machine in vmware?

virtualbox is more simple for audio and video

Vmplayer has a set of tools that it will install for you when you build a new virtual machine. Unlike virtualbox wmplayer supports win98 with a set of tools that installed when you make a vm of win98 just like winxp. That said I have never had sound not work in winxp and I always let vmplayer install the tools. If you don't have the tools installed try that. If you do have them install I would suggest trying to install the audio driver for es1371. I think that is what vmplayer uses.

Dragon Naturally Dictate does not even install under VirtualBox regrettably.

Unless I can get the sound to work under Vmware, then I shall have to give up on Linux and keep a machine for Windows!

However I am going to follow up on moniac's suggestion about the driver. Thank You.
