I think with the new 64 bit iso's coming out. Maybe a 64 bit section might narrow down some questions.

Thanks

that is a good idea but if i understand this well, 64 bit pclinux will exist only in 2012 so patience is required

for some time 32 and 64 bit will coexist so maybe a 64 bit software, laptops and desktops sections should exist

what others would be necessary?

As the ISOs are only for testing they are not supported in the forum, and although there have been testing forum sections set up in the past, I believe Texstar currently wants everything done through the testers' mailing list.

Of course, not everyone wants to sign up with Google, and he will miss out on feedback from those of us who won't, but I presume he thinks he will get enough from those who do.

Our turn will come when it's officially released...

As it is, the 64-bit (although stable enough to bump other 64-bit distros back to their alphas) is still on the testing phase, and the Testers ML is where bug reports and issues are reported. Testing is not "officially" supported on the forum but it will be as soon as Texstar push it to stable.

There are still room for more testers. And I'd like to take this opportunity to remind all the subscribed testers to (1) BOTTOM POST. (2) Remove the extra footer and trim all unnecessary contents - don't be lazy! The Testers ML is not for asking support. It is for reporting problems. Do not expect to get fixes on your problems. We have the software updates for that.

If you don't want to bork your system, DO NOT INSTALL ANY TESTING SOFTWARE!

Helping test out releases and updates are a good way to help out. It is a community effort. PCLinuxOS ROCKS!

The suggestion was not that there should be a 64 bit section for test reports or official support.

News, comments and other views could easily be 'confined' to such a section and kept away from the supported 32 bit threads.

Maybe even a sub-section of Sandbox would be sufficient ....... but no doubt, with the interest being generated by the test ISOs and reports from testers, someplace for others to post - specifically 64 bit oriented - would be desireable.

It would also be a place to refer people who have questions to ask about all aspects of a future move to 64 bit.

In addition, those who for their own reasons (as mentioned in a post above) wil not join the testers list, would have someplace to post a bug, which registered testers could try to duplicate and then report on the testers ML.

Lots of reasons to have such a section, not least being allowing ordinary forum members somewhere to get info and guage progress.

warning to all inexperienced users - read, mark learn, inwardly digest and enjoy the ride, but keep your stable installation.

If you want to participate in testing then install the 64 bit test iso on a throw away partition and join the testers mailing list. I don't need to have things scattered all over the place just to accommodate a few people who have some kind of problem with google in general at the moment. If you want to keep up with what is going there you don't have to join as it is a public list that can be seen from your browser.

The only difference between the 32 and 64 bit version is one is 32 bit and the other is 64 bit. The 64 bit repo is not complete and missing many applications that haven't been ported over yet.

Thanks for understanding.

I would have joined the testers mailing list a couple of weeks ago, but then it seemed so meaningless. The problem is that I still don't have a single problem to report. For me the 64 bit test iso has been the fastest and most stable Linux version I have ever used.

(I'm missing one or two applications, of course, but that's self-evident and not worth reporting.)

Thanks .....  that should keep all such posts together, rather than have them scattered all over the place, butting into the 32 bit support threads.

The problem is that I still don't have a single problem to report.
This fact has to be reported together with your computer specs, I think.
This way Tex could make a data base on what hardware configurations there are no problems and on what problems rise. Undecided
