I have installed the hardware temperature monitoring widget on my KDE4 desktop of HP Mini 110 netbook.
It shows hardware temperature in Fahrenheit units. It does not specify of what hardware component is the temperature measured : cpu / motherboard etc.

Currently it shows around 80+ on startup rising to 120+ F range on continued use.

Is it normal? What is the normal range for this temperature display? What exactly is it showing the temperature of?

sling-shot,
You are operating under normal temperatures for a laptop CPU.  No worries Grin

What would be the higher limit for normal here?

I have the ASUS 1015PEM  netbook with the dual core N550 Atom.
Presently running KDE and making a damn fine job of it too.
Core temperature averages 65 degrees C. ( 149 F )
According to Intel, the upper operating temperature is 100 degrees C. ( 212 F )
CPU shutdown takes place at 125 degrees C. ( 257 F )
So it looks like you are well within the safety zone.
FYI the Atom N550 TDP is 8.5 watts and monitoring is courtesy of Conky.

my atom n455 works around 45-55ºc

120 f is around those values

it would be ideal to run a little cooler than this but most users report to run it at this values when using current kernel and kde4

i think it is normal
