Just bought this netbook yesterday and I´m quite dissapointed It comes with W7 and Android dual-boot.Performance is really bad playing videos and scrolling up and down the websites. I´d like to run XFCE 4.8 to see if performance is better.I have tried to boot from usb live but I have not been able to. With F2 I get a screen showing "windows seven" boot option but only that.I can´t find the booting menu or BIOS to change boot options. Please help!!!

I forgot to say it has the Atom dual-core, 1Gb of DDR3, so I expected a better performance than what I get.

I can´t find the booting menu or BIOS to change boot options.
Try Del, F1, F2 one at a time.

I´ve solved the booting problem and tried the xfce live usb I have and everything fine besides the keyboard layout which is not correct. and tapping is also not working. Is there a specific netbook version?

with that netbook, yes, pclinux kde4, a dual core atom is very powerful, you can run whatever you want in it
that is what i use on may atom single core
about tap, that coud be fixed with some edition and the keyboard, what is the exact problem?

you could try to change the keyboard type in pclinux control center/hardware, to a profile from acer, not sure which one, so you have to do some trial and error

problem is that I can not get to type root as I have no o and no t. Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to virtual console #1. See if you can login as root there. If you can, then run drakconf, like T6 says.

Hi. I´m returning the netbook as the integrated speaker is not working so I guess I´ll have to wait a week to get the new replacement and then try. In the meanwhile I´ve arranged for a neighbour to borrow a usb-keyboard to be able to log into the setup center. Can anyone tell me where and what I should do to setup the small netbook keyboard to work properly? Thx a lot for the help

I have a D255E that i buy at the end of may (rev. 13463) so it must be very similar to your; I have PCLOS/KDE, use french canadian keyboard layout. I use it almost daily and, it work great! At installation time, PCLOS detect a type 105-key (intl) pc keyboard. All i have to do is to specify our local layout in the control center. Are you sure the internal speaker is not working? If i remember correctly, the mixer don't show it by default at installation time. Anyway, don't spend time activate that crappy speaker as i do, use headphones instead. For your root PW, write it on a text file on another computer, transfert it on a USB key, open the file on the netbook, CTRL-C CTRL-V, voilà.

Thx for the info! I did return it today as I got it on friday and I want it in perfect conditions as I've paid good money for it! If it is not too much to ask, what did you choose as layout? If I go to Pclos Centre I see under "acer" a ferrari 4000 option, is it that? Thx!
