What if it is a Samsquamch?

WWW
« on: September 16, 2011, 08:53:05 AM »

It shouldn't be so hard to install a driver for a common printer.

I have tried using the plugin installation app but it cannot find the driver.

The HPLP driver system is not available for install -

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

I would really like to be able to use my printer with PCLinuxOS instead of starting my Windows 7 machine every time I wish to print something.

Any help from someone that has had success installing this printer is most appreciated -

Have you installed task-printing-hp and task-printing-server packages from Synaptic? Is there something wrong with the hplip packages available in Synaptic?

The firmware needed for that printer cannot be downloaded because the site is currently offline as it is on the same server at the linuxfoundation servers that were recently hacked. There is nothing to do until they bring the servers back online.

Both of those packages are installed, as is the hplip- I have no idea if there is a problem with them 9they are current).

I have tried following the foo2zjs driver installation in a root terminal and logged in as root and cannot get past the first step -
Code:
Click the link, or cut and paste the whole command line below to download the driver.

        $ wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz

Hmmm- ok, thanks Tex.

Any chance that the drivers or solution could be uploaded to our paid server? A direct solution would be nice for us PCLinuxOS fanboys.....

As seen online...

Plugins for HPLIP are uploaded at http://www.openprinting.org website, which is unfortunately down due to an unexpected issue. Since the webserver is not available, installation of plugins is failing. We will get back to you once we make alternative arrangements for accessing the plugins.

The foo2zjs driver in the repository caused my P1102w printer to fail.  I had to go here and follow the steps to install and get it going again.

I'm a happy camper, because I got my HP 1020 Laserjet installed today!

Long story short, I had to reinstall the OS after I fubarred it via that Synaptic glitch. After I installed it I loaded the printer (logged in as root) and I was done.

You can show this as resolved!
