I know this has been discussed before - most likely in Forum Rules - but it is something that becomes more apparent when a new release has occurred. Threads starting with "XXYY Doesn't Work" achieve nothing IMHO. They are not likely to elicit helpful and patient responses from our more experienced members. As an aside, I have noticed (with a certain amount of suspicion) that some of these aggressive postings arise from members with a very low number of posts - typically < 10. That might be the cynic in me coming to the fore. Now, if that struggling new friend had addressed his / her query with "I can't get XXYY to work", it would seem that more caring responses might be forthcoming. It also suggests that they expect to get it to work, perhaps with another person's help, soon I used to hear students in my classroom say, "I can't understand quadratic equations" or whatever. I would say to them, "Change that to read 'I can't understand quadratic equations yet'". That shows the determination that they expect to understand the bl**** things in the near future. There's my 2 cents worth. Mods, if you want to move this out of the Sandbox, feel free to do so. Jim

jimwilk:Nothing wrong with your powers of observation. Whenever we have a new release, we inevitably get fanboys from other distros registering here, and starting troll posts, usually with the aggressive manner you've seen. When we determine this is the case, we ban them from posting here, as their only purpose is to cause trouble by making spurious claims. Once banned, for their rude behavior, they usually go to DW, or back to their chosen distro, to report how bad PCLinuxOS is, and how horrible the moderators and individuals from this community are, while proclaiming their total innocence in the matter. Nobody with an ounce of common sense believes them, but they do stir up their fellow trolls. Our problem is identifying the true trolls, and separating them from the simply frustrated new Linux users who are lost in a strange environment. Once the latter are calmed down, and meaningful information obtained, their problems can usually be corrected in short order. The former have unsolvable problems, because they never actually existed in the first place.

I would accept aggressive but well suited question. Details you know. Will leave aggression aside and try to answer. Have had seen aggression in my life, had been aggressive myself too so I could manage with it I think

I think part of the problem is the demand for instant gratification. They want it, and they want it now. When I came to PCLinuxOS, I was a complete Linux novice. I had tried a couple of distros as live cds, but hadn't installed anything. Before I installed this os, I had a good look around the help section especially. I found out how this system is best used and maintained. I haven't yet needed to post for help because most issues users come up against have already been documented and solved. It just takes a little patience and research.

OP, I had no idea that there are people like that out there. Guess you guys would know.I tweak my system, but more for feel and looks. But if I have a problem, I generally try to do it on my own, if that don't work, I check the forums. If that don't work, I Google. If that don't work , I go back to do it on my own. If that don't work, THEN I make a thread about it. The last option doesn't happen too often. You admins and mod's keep up the good work...

Very perceptive Jim! +1 Common problem among many Linux forums (or any for that matter). This forum does an excellent job of handling this issue. On another note; I don't understand quadratic equations either, but my 13 yr old daughter does

I sometimes wonder, why people change operating systems, and adopt an aggressive attitude to the new one because it's not the same !
If I've been driving an automatic gearbox car for years, and suddenly get another car which is a manual gearbox, it's gonna take a while to "FAMILIARIZE" myself with having to change gear with the new gearbox, clutch, and brakes biting at different points, even the performance of the engine etc etc.
I guess I could always get aggressive at the new car, for not being the same as the old one ?
as I always say to people who show any interest in Linux, it's not difficult, it's just different, take it slow and ease your way into it.
If you've learned another operating system, you can learn Linux.
I think this forum is excellent, and the people that run it are doing great !
My thanks to all who help.

It's really the attitude that matters. The trolls are the lowest of insects on the Internet, followed by ingrates who think those who help them with their issues owe it to them because their parents never taught them.
There are plenty of good members to go around and New Friends to make. Our mods have done a fantastic job weeding out those who do not belong to this community, and I'm sure they will continue doing their difficult jobs. Our OS IMHO is the King of the Road, thanks to our devs (especially Tex) for all the time and efforts they've spent on giving us the best.
We are a good community; others may argue if I use best but there's no denying that we are one of the best.
So, I'm just very glad to be here ... with all you people. PEACE.
