Just checked ....  there is no small size limit when using      mksquashfs  ....  I created a .sqfs file greater than 11GB ..

not sure about mounting it as a loop image though ......

I have, I tried it on a 8GB Kingston formatted Fat32.
I can't remember the error message now but it definitely could not recognize the drive

not sure right now, but it seems to remember some issue around grub with fat32 ... not finding stage ...

Additionally, fat32 filesystem itself have a file size limit of 4 Gb.

I tried using the large sqfs file on a USB device, but it appears it is being mounted as Type iso9660 and so fails.

If it was mounted as Type squashfs then I believe it would mount OK.

The mount Type is determined in the linuxrc file .....  but I don;t know what effect changing the mount Type would have on other functions.

Might be worth looking into .....  there may be an error in the logic ...... ?

I formatted the stick as NTFS, it now works, I presume ext3 should also work

I now believe it is not an issue of squashfs Vs ISO9660 as I first thought.

I have no difficulty in loop mounting the large squashfs file in my installed OS.
It fails to mount when booting live.

At this point I do not know why.

I have asked for feedback on possible reasons but have received no answeres as yet ......
