Which Desktop? (KDE? Others?)

Is the printer recognized once you plug it in?

If PCLinuxOS doesn't recognizes it (the first thing to try) you can download the Linux driver (5200 series) here:

I'M using the KDE desktop and it does see the printer, but does't find a driver. I went to the web site before and I believe the file is a deb file, I did unpack the file. I have no clue on how to install the driver.I  What I have tried is using the PCL control panel and also command line.Maybe I'M doing something wrong. Help

It doesn't find the driver but it should give you the option "Search". You can then look for Canon in the options offered followed by your model (or nearest much, you need a MG5200 series driver).
If it is not there download from the link I posted. There is a rpm driver.
Installing such driver(s) is easy via a konsole using command rpm install driver.rpm ("driver' to be replaced by actual driver).
Easiest is to browse with Dolphin to the spot where the driver is, then via tools open a konsole.
Become root (type su <enter>, root password <enter> and your there. Type ls <enter> to see the file(s)
No issue the command rpm install dadadada
You can highlight the driver found and the paste it after the command using middle click for ease and to avoid typo's.
Done.  Wink

You need this driver:

Yeah, lost here as well ..

You got the printer, you got the driver installed. Should work ..

Try via "Configure your printer" in Configuration. Disconnect printer. Remove printer there. Plug in again and search for the driver (if the configuration fails to find it).
Should work ..... But if not  you got to wait for more "specialized help" as I am out of idea's by now.

It seems to me that this one is the driver for the scanner, for printing you need this one:

Yup, makes sense!  Cheesy

2 in 1 makes .... 2 drivers!  (Missed that rather simple fact)  Wink

Starting "XSane" (under Graphics) should lead to the install of the scanner. Or better: configuration of the scanner.  Wink

It doesn't see a scanner and then just exits, When I use the control panel it does not see a scanner. Do i need to install something else? I thought the other driver was for the scanner. I tired reinstalling that RPM and said already installed.

Thanks

Tsja ....... It learns: "MG5200 series ScanGear MP Ver. 1.60 for Linux (rpm Packagearchive)" and we got to assume that is the right driver......

Do you have install task-printing-scanning ? If not go for that. (Or reinstall it for that matter).

Tja ... XSane seems to crash away as I understand... Duno, maybe try to re-install that XSane as well during next update you might perform. Did you do a reboot meanwhile? No broken packages found?
Running fast out of ideas here. We got here a Canon MP160 and it all works like a charm (aside of landscape printing which is a nightmare in general).
Hope you can figure it out!
