problems installing HP Laserjet 4+ in PCLOS 2011-07 XFCE

Using a URL of USB:/dev/lp0, the printer shows up as default printer BUT...

When I try to print a test page (or anything else) I get the message
'W2 INVALID PERS' in the printer. <shift><continue> on the printer clears it back to ready.

Found this:

W2 Invalid Pers HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P, 4MP Printers The job was not printed because the requested personality, such as PostScript (MP), was not installed. Install the language in which the files are sent, together with enough memory to support that language. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.

It means that your system is trying to print using a "personality" (presumably Postscript) that your printer doesn't support.
You need to choose a different driver (PCL, i.e HP Laserjet 4 Plus pcl3 ...)

BTW I had this problem with Mint a while back, and despite much head scratching, their gurus couldn't hep me to het any further than this.

SO: I'll repeat my other question:  Is it Possible to install PrinterDrake and it's associated drivers from a previous Live CD?

The printer WAS recognized and correctly set up automatically by PrinterDrake in PCLOS 2010-12-15 Gnome, XFC and KDE.

No, it's not possible to install printerdrake because has been superseeded by the new tool

Printing now OK, I installed Turbo-Print (Thanks to Ed Bernsten), it found the Printer and it's all good now.

I took your suggestion of the entering into the URI, parallel:/dev/lp0.  It went to another window that I could select my printer and driver.  The printer printed the test page OK, but would not print a file.  I had to go into the Xfce settings manager and select CUPS.  Now it prints.  This is the most trouble that I have had with a printer.  I used the suggestion on my other computer  that has KDE4 and that is now working as well.  Thanks for that suggestion.  It made it work!!!!

Probably the HP Laserjet 4+ = too dang old and no longer supported. HP Laserjet 6P = working! yaaaa for me.  

P.S. You can get a HP3050 all in one for about 50 bucks and works perfect with Linux.

Not so fast.  My HP Laserjet 6MP has been worked fine until this last round of updates.  Now it no longer works even though it continues to be recognized in PCL Control Center.  Something changed.  I will start a new thread since this one is getting long.
