Mounting usb/format an sd chip(SOLVED)

When I connect the usb it does not register automatically, Can this be changed so it is automatically detected ?
Also when I try to format my sd chip or micro sd chip it seems I do not have this option either ?

Any ideas please ?    

I am using pclinux pheonix Xfce.
My desktop is an Acer aspire tower .
Any help would be great, it is probably something simple but I just can't work it out and I do not want to ruin the setup..

I'm not familiar with Phoenix, but open Synaptic and see if the packages dynamic and pmount are installed. If not, install them and try again.

Thanks, I now have pmount installed and that is working great, I already have dynamic and is that for formatting the chip ?
Because I still cannot format the chip.

Nope. Both packages are for automounting and managing USB devices. How is the sandisk device connected to the computer? Is it in an IDE or SATA adapter of some kind? Is it in a camera or printer? Specific information about your hardware and what you have tried will bring answers to your questions quicker.

Silly me.  Well I have a micro sd chip in a usb reader which I plug into the tower,
Just a normal usb chip reader.when I put it into my daughters laptop it is possible to format with her windows (os) but I prefer to use this (os) so I do not want to go back to windows.
I was on  alot previously with a laptop and I never had this problem before so I can imagine it is just a tweak in the set up I probably need but I don't know where to start.  
 
I am gradually getting my computer set up the way I wish and its all thanks to this forum.

Does it show up in PCLOS Control Center - Local Disks - Manage Disk Partitions?

If so it can  be formatted through there.

I found the usb in Manage disk partitions okay. But I am unsure how to format the chip.
I clicked the window option and then I cleared the card and when I went to close the box I get this message.
Please can somebody help with directions on this subject please.
