Hi all:
I have a HP officejet 6500A plus that I am trying to connect to my desktop wirelessly. The best I could do the last time was to hook it up with a usb cable. I could never get the scanner to work. Could someone help with the install? Thanks

Coffeetime
My problem is that I am unsure how to install. The last install I did with it was with Mint and if I remember correctly I used plugged the printer in via usb cable and used HPLIP to configure. The end result was the printer was seen only on the usb cable and not wirelessly when the usb cable was unplugged. I was also never able to get the scanner to be seen. So I am looking for a little guidence as to How To Install correctly

1] Printer:
Print network configuration page from the printer control panel:
From the Home screen, touch right arrow , and then select Setup. Touch Reports, and then select Network Configuration Page.

Check printer's IP.
How to set up wifi communication using the Wireless Setup Wizard, page 228

[make sure to check your wireless router settings, such as MAC list/Encryption/DHCP/Static IP...]

2] Ping your printer:
Open Konsole, copy/paste:

Code:
ping 192.168.xxx.xx

[where 192.168.xxx.xx is IP of your printer. Post back results]

3] PCLinuxOS configuration:

Press Alt+F2, enter pcc, type your password. Go to Hardware/Configure printing and scanning/Set up the printer...

Click Add printer/Network printer/AppSocket/HP JetDirect.

Location of the network printer:
Host: enter IP of your printer
Port number: 9100

and it should find your printer. The correct driver is e710n-z

My settings:

You can access the settings via your web browser [enter IP address of your printer, 192.168.xx.xx]:

or use the HP toolbox [install hplip packages]:

4] Scanning:

Install Xsane or Skanlite. Both programs should detect your printer.

Thanks for your help. I now have the printer working wirelessly after following your direction, but the scanner is not seen. The odd thing is my roommates Cannon printer's scanner is found but not printer. Any idea's. The HP lip set up tool mention some printers needing a temp usb connection during set up could this be the problem?

Thanks for all your help. Not wanting to give up, Knowing that nothing could be broken, I played around with HPLIP. Short answer is that PCC will get the printer working but not the scanner. HPLIP does not see the pcc printer configuration so see's no printer, fax, scanner. You must install via HPLIP to get it all working. A USB cable was not needed.

Again thanks a million.
