Some background:
I have not updated my system since the xorg 1.9.5 update came out. Since my system is fairly modified, I really needed a whole day to spare in case something went wrong and I needed to troubleshoot. Due to some of the modifications I've made I don't think I qualify for official support, so I'd be on my own and who knows how long it would take me to resolve any potential problems. Of course, I needed a remaster of my working install first, which also needed time to be tested(and created properly). I had that time last night and today.
First I installed then ran aptupgrade and rebooted. Everything worked, smooth sailing so far. Then I downloaded all the updates with 'Download package files only' checked so I could install at my leisure. First I updated KDE SC and a few other apps. Rebooted. Everything still worked. If anything, KDE seemed a little bit snappier.
I then started the install procedure for everything else and went to bed. When I awoke the next morning I made some coffee(coffee always comes first) then rebooted and crossed my fingers. No problems. It was as if nothing happened.
Then I tried enabling kwin desktop effects. 3d acceleration didn't work with the old xorg. I clicked apply. KDE didn't crash. It just asked me if I accepted the current configuration. Transparency, blur, cube, wobbly windows. Perfect!
How about games? Games I couldn't play with the old xorg now work(like Warzone 2100, Open Arena, Nexuiz, etc.). So do games I installed through WINE(like Puzzle Quest, GTA VC, Battlefield, etc.). I'm very happy about this.
And I'm still on kernel-2.6.33.5-pclos1.bfs

So outstanding job on the xorg and aptupgrade updates Texstar. And thank you packagers, community remaster maintainers, and testers. You do an excellent job and it's the reason I stick with PCLinuxOS.
