Thanks to all of you folks who responded with kindness and a welcoming spirit to my testimonial.   It's appreciated.  A couple of weeks have passed since giving 7 the deep six, and I'm happy to say I'm having no regrets...... so far.  Do I feel totally comfortable?  No, not at all, but I steer a slow and steady course.  While there is so much to learn I think I'm up for this challenge.   Aye, Linux makes marlinspike look like child's play.  I was just so frustrated with h.M.$ Redmond's ever-present instability that it ultimately forced me to jump ship.   With any luck they will soon be hull down on the horizon astern with nary a chance of ever seeing me again.......not even my wake!

wyzwyk, after you run PCLinuxOS for a while you will not be impressed by any Windows systems anymore. PCLinuxOS is so much more resource friendly and fast and if you get on a computer with Windows on it, it will seem slow in comparison. I have a computer with Windows on it because the BIOS was tampered with by the manufacturer so Linux would not run properly on it (long story). I almost never use the Windows computer because it just seems so sluggish compared to my computer with PCLinuxOS on it. Both computers have similar specs and the Windows machine has a slightly better graphics card in it but the PCLinuxOS machine is so much more pleasant to use.

PCLinuxOS will spoil you! Having a rolling release and not having to deal with defragmenting, viruses and malware will grow on you. PCLinuxOS is "Radically Simple" as the saying goes and you will be asking yourself why you didn't make the switch a long time ago. The community here is great and you will really enjoy it here!
