All,

My father-in-law (not technical at all) has had a Acer desktop with
Vista for a number of years. It has been used (and abused) by 3 grandkids
who put all sort of virus/malware/cr*pwaer on his machine.

If it wasn't for TeamViewer, I would have thrown the machine off the
nearest cliff. He lives 50km away, a half-hour drive on the best of
days.

After getting the infamous MS Software Removal Tool, his mobile
broadband stopped working. No amount of tweak or twiddle could get it working.

After hearing me mumble under my breath and louder as time went
on "I HATE W*NDOWS!". He asked what did I use?

Linux, no viruses/malware/cr*pware.  Could I put it on?

So I installed PCLinuxOS 2011.6 KDE. It recognised all his hardware.
His mobile broadband connected with out a hitch. Installed the Chromium
brower and TeamViewer 6 for good measure.

A week goes by. Not a word.  With him, no news is not necessarily
good news.  I call. "So, Trev, mate how goes it?".

He LOVES it!  Fast, sharp graphics, like a new machine.

Now when the phone rings and I see its him (Caller-ID), its a social
call, not tech support.

Thank You Texstar and all who have made PCLinuxOS what it is.

It gave my sanity back and my father-in-law a "new" machine.

Oh and the grandkids stay away from the machine.  They can't
install their little "toys". He doesn't mind at all.

Kindes Regards,

AussieBear.

WOW. The in laws. That's great - most folks avoid the in laws like the plague.

Glad to see someone want to kill Windows once and for all - just like me! Smiley

Congrats!

Usually in laws DO NOT agree on something the younger folk use. This must be one of those rare occurances.

PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

Very good story! My Father-In-Law has an HP with Vista on it too... If he did not use a dial up connection, he would be running PCLinuxOS too. I have to fix my Father-In-Law's computer at least once a month...
