I've known for awhile that PCLinuxOS is everything one needs in a operating system(been using since PCLinuxOS 2007). Sometime in late 2006 I got a virus on my laptop- I was dual booting between PCLinuxOS & windows, and i just couldn't get rid of the virus regardless of all effort i put into it so I said "F it" & did a PCLinuxOS only install & have not had one single regret ever since. I've only had to ask a few questions over the years so that in itself says alot about how easy the people at PCLinuxOS have made it for anyone thinking of making the change from other OS's.
But today I want to share my experience on the latest release (PCLinuxOS 2011.6-kde).

-I downloaded the ISO- my dsl connection took about 18 minutes (not bad- about average on any distro iso i download)
-installed to usb flash drive using unetbootin- 3 minutes
-booted from flash drive into PCLOS (from sysstem off to desktop)- 1min 47 secs (very good)
-installed PCLOS (used entire drive)- 5mins 20 secs (very very good)
-after installation completed, did a restart & did the update- less than 2 mins (very good)

after install & updates I downloaded the other programs I use, which didn't take very long as most of my preferred programs are included in the install- awesome

my boot time from off to desktop is 53 secs- WOW WOW WOW

This is on a 4-5 year old IBM Thinkpad T43 with 1 gb of ram (am going to put on my netbook tonight)- i have no problems running the desktop effects at all and everything from programs opening to overall performance seem to be faster than on other distro's i've tried.
Anyone that is looking to change for whatever reason owe's it to themselves to give PCLinuxOS a try-

2 thumbs up to texstar & the rest of the gang at PCLOS, my hats off to you-)

I think once most people try PCLinuxOS they are hooked. The 2011.6 release is the highest quality release I have ever seen, it's quick, stable, attractive and more. I consider myself fortunate to be here and very glad to be running such a fine operating system.

I couldn't have said it better myself..

Well, I yanked out the 500-gig-drive that was in the laptop, and put back the original 160-gig.  Why... cause I wanted the 500-gig for a external mini usb-3 case.

So I installed the 2011.6 iso.  With the previous 2010.12 fully updated, I had to use XRender.  Now I can go back to OpenGL, and it rocks!

Installing the British-English locale, and LibreOffice worked like a charm.

Once all my personal tweaking is done... it will be back to hum-drum........... (nothing to fix)

+1   That fixing stuff get's old after a while.  PCLOS is like a precision made well oiled machine.
You just know that when you turn it on it's going to work.  Cool

Oh you are so right...

I have spent most of my years re-formatting and tweaking the OS.

Re-formatting and installing was to blame, me using windows.  I have had windows since win-3.1.  I actually believe I formatted and re-installed windows at least a 100+ times for me and my friends.  I'm a pro at those Dos commands.

Linux GUI was crude back then.  BUT now... it it easier to install than windows-7.

NOW... install our hottest PCLOS...of our many flavors....... and you will be impressed.

I came back from Debian.  My Linux route is ..untu 6.06 -> alot (Misc Distros: Linux Mint, PCLOS, Fedora, OpenSuse in between those releases etc.) then found out about unity switched to Debian KDE 4.45 Used it for 7 months now I'm back here and plan to remain.  I hated fixing and tweaking Debian took 3 hours for me to do that PCLOS was fast! Including updates with a slow WIFI connection about an hour and a half to install updates and programs I needed.  I also love how Firefox is not re-branded and everything is up to date. I was getting tired of no updates and old software.

Good to hear.

IF, if.... PCLinuxOS were ever to die.... I would have to go to Linux-Mint.

But I think the Tex & Gang... will never let this happen.  Especially since all the positive feedback "they" have had lately... Smiley Smiley Grin Grin
