The best compliment I have noticed PCLinuxOS receive was last night when my wife (the other old-polack) allowed me to remove Windows7 and install 2011.6 KDE on her desktop PC. She works assisting students from around the world in receiving a PhD in Information Sciences. Most of them use Windows. In the past she would not even discuss it. Now that she agrees Linux works with most software and includes common non-free features that people want in an operating system, it's time to move to PCLinuxOS. She has been using my new KDE and LXDE installations.
Who would want multimedia codecs, Google Earth, Flash, Java or the Hulu desktop? Me! As Alex is raising his hand. I can hear the “Linux purest gasping” The problem with being a purest is one needs to carry that to all areas of life. Move to south Florida where I'm located. Build a mud hut in the swamp. No running water and so on. Make sure to include open areas in the walls to let light in along with the creatures that can eat you. Hope you will like the 100 degree temps along with the 100% humidity. Being geeky cool is not cool any more. Most users just want things that work. With the release of 2011.6 KDE and LXDE the bar has been raised to a point that will difficult for other distros to reach. All involved need to be proud of the releases.
You did keep a backup copy of Windows 7 just in case she changes her mind? You know how some ladies are known to do that.

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

Along with other features in her package that attracted me, she has a good mind for computers. The best I have seen.

My Wife tried Linux and it lasted about a week... I have to go along with Texstar's advice, keep that Windows disk handy. My Wife is into games and all I heard was how this and that game wouldn't run in Linux. I couldn't get Windows back on her computer fast enough.
