Hi,

I've just installed the latest Gnome version and can't work out how to change my DNS server addresses.
I left clicked the tray icon to bring up Network Center and there is only one connection listed (wired ethernet). I clicked this, configure, removed the tick from "Get DNS servers from DHCP", entered my preferred addresses and saved it. Hovering over the tray icon though is still displaying my ISP's servers? Tried disconnect/connect and rebooting and my saved settings are still in the configuration details but the DNS servers do not change.

Any help would be appreciated. Maybe there's a script somewhere I need to edit?

How do you connect to your ISP through ppp0, the setting is probably somewhere there.

Do you have a ppp0 interface?

what do these commands give you

ifconfig

cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0

ps:
remove any passwords if the last command has any

Unfortunately this didn't work, but then I remembered seeing a post about this in the Mandriva forum.
I followed this and edited:

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0

..by adding the two server addresses as below:

DEVICE=ppp0
ONBOOT=no
METRIC=45
USERCTL=yes
LINESPEED=115200
MODEMPORT=/dev/rfcomm0
DNS1=your_dns1
DNS2=your_dns2
DEBUG=yes
PERSIST=yes
DEFROUTE=yes
ACCOUNTING=yes
CELLULAR_CID=1

Disconnect - reconnect and sorted.  Thanks for your help.

Had you done a forum search you might have found this, and not had to look to other forums for your answer.

I've just reinstalled my 2010 Gnome onto a new drive and upgraded it.
Everything works fine except when I come to change my ppp0 DNS servers I can no longer see a sysconfig folder in etc.
Has the location of where I need to make this edit changed?

Yep, a look in the PCLinuxOShelp Knowledge Base would of turned up the solution also!
